The Health Ministry Team met recently with the Parish Council to discuss parish health and recommendations for better health. All Saints Parish is concerned about the health of our members and guests. People have become more and more interested in eating smart and moving more. Heart disease, cancer, and lung disease are the top three causes of death in Indiana and are largely affected by what we eat and how physically active we are. Exercise, nutrition, and weight are identified as the top three health needs of Vanderburgh County. Regular physical activity provides for increased quality of life through improved endurance, strength, flexibility and balance, as well as reduced risk of chronic disease, injury, and perception of stress.
Two recommendations came out of the meeting: Eat Smart – Water Pitcher Recommendation and Purposeful Movement Recommendation. All Saints Parish recommends that water and healthy food options along with purposeful movement be encouraged at parish functions. The length of purposeful movement is appropriate for the age of the participants and the location of the meeting. One activity that was suggested by the participants of the Healthy Eating and Active Living Program was to a start a walking group. We will begin the Westside Walking Club on Tuesday, May 8 at 5:00 pm at All Saints Parish. Tom Bogenschutz will lead our Westside Walking Club. The plan is to walk for 30 minutes within the community. The Westside Walking Club has scheduled to meet on Tuesday, May 8, 15, 22, & 29. Our plans are to expand and include community members in our walks. Nothing gives me greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth. (3 John 1:4)
