Becoming self-righteous is a trap into which many well-meaning people can fall. We can mistakenly believe that we are somehow more favored or superior in God’s eyes because of our fidelity. This is a blatantly wrong assumption. God’s mercy and love extends to the worst of sinners and he responds to the pleas of those who are most humble.
