Why do Catholics believe in a “virgin birth?”
Before Jesus was born, Isaiah was told, “the virgin shall be with child, and bear a son, and shall name him Immanuel” (Isaiah 7:14). The virgin birth was documented in Luke 1:34. Had Jesus been conceived like the rest of us, He could not have been a perfect sacrifice for our sins. “And the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us, and we saw his glory, the glory as of the Father’s only Son, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14).
