Why Do Catholics Do That?

What do we believe about the end of Mary’s life?

Catholics believe that at the end of her life Mary was taken, body and soul, into heavenly glory
(Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC), #966).
This belief was officially stated by Pope Pius XII in 1950, but it had been held since the early Church.
Mary was “full of grace” (Luke 1:28) and remained sinless throughout her life. Having carried the Son of God within her, her Assumption into Heaven preserved her body from the corruption in the grave.
