Disciples on a Journey Together

July 15, 2024

A view of the Holy Spirit in hindsight.

Several months ago, the family member of a deceased parishioner wanted to be sure that the people who had been calling her mother were told how special it was for her mother.
This encouraged me to put a reflection in the bulletin several weeks ago asking everyone to talk to people we don’t know and welcome them.
And then on Thursday, “She always smiled when she talked about her friends at church.” This came again from the family member of one our parishioners. She always sat in the back pew. She drove herself to Mass. Everyone sitting around her always took time to catch up with each other. I offer that they were family…parish family.
Apparently, it meant much more than I ever imagined.

We always hear about and talk about how we are a welcoming parish. I’m beginning to realize that this is done one by one. Do we talk with the people sitting around us at Mass? Do we greet and welcome people we don’t know? How do we get to know each other and thus become a parish family?
One person, one conversation at a time.

May God continue to bless our parish family!
