Parish Picnic…

I hope that everyone is able to come to our Parish Picnic on Sunday, September 21^st …if even for just a short time. 

As most of you know, I grew up in Ireland.  Their Parish Picnic is always the second Sunday in September.  I think we started working at the picnic when we were in middle school.  I remember washing soup bowls.  Later, we girls were scheduled to serve in the cafeteria.  Growing up, the picnic was fun, after it was work.  I know the picnic brought the parish together to share in the work.  However, I missed the point of community…I saw it as a way for the parish to make money. 

I love how our Parish Picnic is not a fundraiser.  It is not a Summer Social.  It is an opportunity for us to gather for lunch and games…fun and fellowship…time to get to know new members of the parish or old members of the parish we don’t know.
