St. Fidelis of Sigmaringen is a lesser-known saint but is nonetheless a saint for our times. Born Mark Rey in 1577, he became a lawyer and worked tirelessly for the cause of the poor and marginalized in his community. Seeing the greed and corruption so common to his profession, he decided to give it up to become a religious brother with the Franciscans. In his new vocation, he continued to serve the needs of the poor until he was martyred in 1622.

Our professional work is holy and can be a way that we draw closer to God, provide for the needs of our family, and bless our communities. When we do our work with integrity, even when those around us do not, we witness to our love for God and to his work in us. St. Fidelis, pray for us, that our work would be a channel of grace!
