The One to Come
Mk. 1:1-8
On this second Sunday of Advent, we are introduced to John the Baptist. John represents the best of the Jewish religious tradition especially the prophets. He is cast as an Elijah type figure encouraging his people to repent and recapture the spirit of the Covenant that the Jewish people have with their God.
But in this instance, we hear John speak of the one who is to come who, he John, is not worthy of even being a lowly servant to him. John is saying great and wonderful things are about to happen.
In this Advent season, great and wonderful things will happen in our life if we but just prepare our hearts and tune into God.
