John the Baptist
John 1:6-8, 19-28
“John came to testify to the light.” The word testify in Greek is the same word used for martyrdom. How the early Christians understood being a witness was then, in part, a giving of your life to the truth.
John the Baptist lived that and in doing so made straight the way of the Lord. For this, he is held up as an exemplar for us and we are challenged to consider what we are willing to offer in our witness to help make straight the way of the Lord.
