Mark 1:21-28 Speaking With Authority

In today’s world, opinions run amuck. Social media, commentators, and “news feeds” all have authoritative opinions for us.

Who’s right, who’s wrong, fake news, and truth all kind of blend together into a murky fog. It is all too much and we’re left wishing that we could turn it off but we can’t. In today’s Gospel, we hear that Jesus speaks with a new kind of authority.

When he speaks, his words bring healing. When he speaks, evil departs. When he speaks, a wisdom is offered that lifts up the soul. In our world, it’s more important than ever to train our ears through prayer and reflection to recognize the quiet voice that speaks in our heart.
