The Wounds of Christ
John 20:19-31
In this Sunday’s Gospel, Thomas must see the wounds of risen Jesus for him to believe. The wounds make Jesus real. They are the scars from his time on earth and the eternal marks of the hatred and cruelty that we subjected him to. Yet, the risen Christ bearing those scars also declares God’s overpowering love regardless of those sins. While bearing those marks, Jesus bears no revenge or condemnation, only forgiveness and love. This is what is most real in that moment. We all do our share of wounding in our stay on this Earth, and we all are wounded as well. As disciples, can we carry our woundedness with the same spirit of love and forgiveness to ourselves and others.
