Mystery of the Trinity

Matthew 28:16-20

This weekend we celebrate the mystery of the Trinity. A Triune God, three yet one, can never be grasped by our puny human minds. It will always be mystery. In today’s Gospel, however, Jesus is not talking mystery when he says baptize in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. What he charges us with is to help others understand that the God who created this world, entered into it as a human being sharing fully all that is human, and now is intimately a part of our lives through His Holy Spirit. In the midst of all our woes and difficulties, God is close by, and we are intimately loved.
