A Desert Place

Mark 6:30-34

After the apostles return from their mission, Jesus has them go out to a deserted place to rest. Those plans don’t work out, but the message is clear that like the Sabbath command to rest, we need downtime to recoup. Most of us, however, would not see the desert as a vacation destiny. It was harsh and barren and maybe not so comfortable. But out there in the desert there are no distractions, and you can key in on your friendship with God. What was true 2000 years ago, still holds for today. We all need a desert place to retreat to nurture our friendship with the Lord.
