May 29 Luke 24:46-53 The Ascension

We celebrate the Ascension of our Lord this Sunday. Jesus returns to God the Father while assuring us we will not be left orphans. His Holy Spirit will be sent to us. There is a key message in this that His Church must grasp. Jesus leaves so that we can become His presence on Earth. The scene from the first reading from the Acts of the Apostles has the messengers of God chiding the Apostles to stop gaping up into the skies and get to the work that needs to be done. Essentially, our mission is to go out into the world, bring the Good News of Christ to everyone and transform the world. The Apostles did their part. That urgent command now rests on our shoulders.
