Aug. 21 Luke 13:22-30 Enter the Narrow Gate

In our recent reading from the Gospel of Luke, Jesus and his disciples are on the road to Jerusalem and that means to the cross. All along this journey Jesus is teaching his disciples about discipleship and that following him is not an easy path. Choices have to be made and many not to our initial liking. Jesus says go to the narrow door and knock. If the master knows you, he’ll let you in and welcome you. That’s how it works with God. If our discipleship follows the tough road of authentic love exemplified by the cross, then the Master will know us and welcome us when we knock. To love like Jesus did, will always entail letting go what is comfortable and our security.
